The reigning Miss South Africa, Rolene Strauss revealed two of her Miss World gowns to the media at an exquisite event held at Sun International’s The Maslow Hotel in Sandton on 5 November 2014. Guests where welcomed with bubbly courtesy of Haute Cabriere and were pampered by Africology. One of the gowns which was modelled was the “finale gown” – created by Bloemfontein designer Casper Bosman and inspired by a blush pink rose and it is an off the shoulder diagonally draped creation with a frilled bottom in 45 meters of hand dyed silk organza.
The official gift which Miss South Africa, Rolene Strauss, will be taking to the Miss World pageant is a framed drawing of Nelson Mandela with a piece of the Robben Island fence by South African artist Marc Alexander.
Rolene set her sights on becoming Miss South Africa, and Miss World, when she was nine years old. She has prepared herself for the pageant and has learned a lot in the eight months she has served as Miss South Africa, citing in particular her public speaking skills which have improved along with her confidence in them. She says: “I am giving my absolute best and have been doing so since I was crowned. I am who I am today becasue of South Africa and the opportunities I have been given. Now is the time to represent our beautiful country fro what we really are; cultural, diverse, caring and full of hope. I trust that I will make every South African proud.”
